Vegan shoe brands can be hard to find specifically fashion-led brands that offer the styles that appeal to most of us. So I was overjoyed to discover Bourgeois Boheme.
Alicia Lai founded the brand in 2005. Ex-podiatrist and long-time vegan, Alicia intertwined her foot care expertise with her love for shoes to create the animal-free classic styles she was struggling to find. Originally an online marketplace for vegan fashion accessories, Alicia later created her own branded footwear, and BB as we know it today was born. From that day, Alicia vowed to maintain an independent business true to her founding quest to create perfect vegan shoes without compromise of quality, finish, or design. All BB shoes are Vegan Society trademarked and PETA approved.
Today, BB is one of the most established vegan footwear brands out there, still small, and independent. They ensure that all their styles are ethically made, using the best innovative, eco-friendly and vegan materials, by their hand-picked artisans in Portugal. Their fan base includes vegan celebs such as Natalie Portman, Bryan Adams and Torrey DeVitto.
I’m very impressed with this brand. The designs appeal and there is something heartwarming about knowing these shoes are ethically made and vegan. So many ethical brands can have undesirable designs or materials that look too plastic. You can tell that the founder is passionate about creating fashion-led shoes that are suitable for vegan and non-vegans alike. The price points are higher than what I’d usually pay but the quality is good and you can’t put a price on a clear conscience.
With prices ranging from £59-£250 it has pretty much something for everyone and you can wear them safe in the knowledge that no animals were harmed in making them. What’s not to love?
