If you are in Perth, Fremantle market is well worth a visit. Fremantle is a beautiful area of Perth and is full of wonderful things to see and do. But, if you really want a treat you must stop by Fremantle market.
Fremantle market is one of Western Australia’s leading tourist destinations. Visitors to the city flock to this beautiful indoor market and we were lucky enough to visit twice when we spent two weeks in Perth. This historic market was originally opened in 1897 and currently has over 150 stalls. It is located on the corner of South Terrace and Henderson Street. It is an easy walk from the train station to the market. The market is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and on Public Holiday Mondays.
The train from Perth’s CBD costs just AU$7.40 or pick up a day ticket for just AU$9 which lets you use Perth’s trains and buses all day. Frematle market is a leading source of independent goods and artisan products and is one of Australia’s most well-known markets. It is vast in size and scope and sells something for pretty much everyone whatever your tastes. There are a lot of small stalls, fresh produce, stalls offering beauty treatments, clothing and kids items. It really is a unique place with a lively family orientated atmosphere. It is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Food & Drink
There are a number of stalls selling food and drink so grab a meal on the go. Cuisines are varied and the choice is immense. You definitely won’t go hungry here and if you are anything like me you’ll want to try food from more than one stall. There is a huge variety from around the world. I even had my hands painted with henna here.
Arts and craft fans are also well taken care of here with plenty to see and do. It really is a great atmosphere – relaxed and lively in equal measures. Take in the street performers that line the entrance and can also be found inside. They are a talented bunch and provide endless entertainment. You’ll finds local and imported goods at Fremantle market so whether your taste is locally sourced goods or the more exotic you are well taken care of.
For the kids
There’s plenty for the little ones. Perth’s Wildlife Zoo can often be found inside the stellar market. Little ones can get up close and personal with koala’s, snake’s and dingoes in an intimate and relaxed environment.
You’ll also find the market fairies (as they’re known) here. They perform random acts of kindness, do face-painting and demonstrate balloon twisting. Perfect for children and adults alike.
There really is plenty to see and do here so stop by if you get the chance!
